— colorscapes with and without form —

Artist Statement

Color is the subject of my paintings. Whether the painting takes form as a figurative piece, landscape or abstract—the role of color is primary. I love color and see it in everything, even the grayest day. It is my way of expressing my feelings for the beauty of this earth. I have great love and concern for this lovely planet and the fragile ecosystem that is being so abused by human thoughtlessness. It is my hope that the viewer will respond to my work and see this world as the Sacred Space that it is.

Marjorie Theresa Morani

A native of Maryland, Marj maintains a studio in Chestertown and has exhibited locally and in juried shows in the area. Her studio on Cannon Street is open to the public by chance or by appointment. Working in Oil with a painting knife or in pastel—her figurative and landscape paintings vividly depict the color and flavor of the Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Marj also works in clay—hand throwing highly decorated functional vessels.

Marj has a degree in both studio art and art history with a specialization in the Italian Renaissance. She studied for four years with New York colorist artist Sam Finestein and has taken workshops with Lois Griffel of the Cape Cod School of Art. These two artists have strongly influenced her work.
